Story

Midnight Willow is Mike Mason’s neoclassical piano project, centered on tranquil melodies with restrained ambient and orchestral detail. Its spacious, understated arrangements suit quiet listening, reading, study, and rest.

The debut, The Forgotten Album (opens in a new tab), was originally written and released on SoundCloud in 2011, then re-released to the public on all music streaming platforms in March 2024. It gathers older songs into a story of nostalgia — joy and sorrow, reflection, and tranquility — where classical elegance meets cinematic depth. The album closes with Sleep, an almost entirely ambient piece, and that quieter direction later became its own artist, Liminal Dusk.

The singles Waltz of Fire (opens in a new tab) and Better Times (opens in a new tab) followed in 2026. Waltz of Fire was written as a companion to the debut video on DreamScapes Sanctuary (opens in a new tab), a sleep-storytelling channel, pairing ambient textures with a piano melody inspired by the warmth and tantalizing movement of a cold winter’s fire that ushers the listener into an ethereal slumber. Better Times looks back at childhood with a bittersweet nostalgia, shifting from somber reflection toward joyful reminiscence.
